Blackhawks, Foligno discussing future — The Fourth Period
The Chicago Blackhawks and captain Nick Foligno have briefly chatted about his future with the organization and with the trade deadline one week away, that conversation is expected to pick up in the coming days.
Foligno, 38, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He has a $4.5 million salary cap hit and does not own any no-trade protection.
The Blackhawks could look to move him to a playoff contender by next Friday’s deadline or try to sign him to an extension.
“When you’re in this situation where you’re not in the playoffs, there’s decisions the organization has to make, and then therefore there’s decisions you have to make,” Foligno said earlier today. “That’s something we’re going to go through the process of. It’s too early to say.”
