Ottawa Senators' Brady Tkachuk has words with Canadiens defenceman Lane Hutson during third period in Montreal on Tuesday.

The Canadiens dropped to fifth place in the tight Atlantic Division and out of a playoff spot after Tuesday night’s 5-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre.

While goaltending has been a problem this season, former Canadiens teammates and 1986 Stanley Cup champions Chris Nilan and Rick Green believe the team’s defensive-zone coverage is a bigger problem.

They explain why on this week’s Hockey Inside/Out Show while joined by The Gazette’s Stu Cowan.

The panel also weighs in on the Canadiens getting pounded 7-2 by the Avalanche — the best team in the NHL — last Saturday in Colorado. Was that a reality check for the Canadiens as far as where they are in their rebuilding process, or was it just a bad game?

Nilan and Green also give their thoughts on the Canadiens honouring former defenceman Andrei Markov before Wednesday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets at the Bell Centre. Green was an assistant coach in charge of the defence with the Canadiens for four seasons while Markov was with the team.
