Rumors: On the Maple Leafs, Rangers, Bruins, Flyers, Blues…more
Good Monday morning, Hockey world… believe it or not, we are only 10 days away from American Thanksgiving…. This date is known as the dreaded cut-off point. Teams start to take things seriously, and if you’re not in the playoffs by American Thanksgiving, historically you won’t be…. Although that is changing, and I will do an article on that later….
But there are rumors afoot this morning… so let’s get to it.
The Maple Leafs are in dire need of something… so many injuries right now, including Auston Matthews, have the team spiraling a bit. Coach Berube, generally the picture of stability, has appeared a little lost at times, and maybe, just maybe, losing Mitch Marner was a big deal… however, there’s still plenty of talent on this team, and there is still plenty of hope…. When was the last time this team went out and got a legitimate veteran forward/proven leader to inject some vitality into this group?
It’s been about 2,969 days…. But who’s counting? That was the day, of course, that John Tavares was signed to the Leafs on July 1, 2018. But that might be changing…. Sources are telling me that since the Matthews injury, discussions about Brayden Schenn have begun, and you can be sure the Toronto native would love to play there… of course, it’s about cap hits, and things are hard to make happen this year… it would take a third party and St. Louis holding onto some money… normally I would say that’s not something that sounds likely… however, I’m told that there are contingency plans being worked on right now…
Also, I just wanted to add this because I just heard it now, literally as I’m writing this article. Toronto has talked to Buffalo about Alex Tuch, and I’m told that Buffalo had no interest in talking deal at this time….(e4)
On the Flyers and Boston and Tippett…
Anyone who’s watched the Flyers this year has seen and followed the crazy case of Owen Tippett. As coach Rick Tocchet has worked on various line combinations, Tippett has looked out of place on several occasions, way more prone to mistakes, and at times looking completely lost…. Flyers fans haven’t been happy about the extension that was signed for this guy, but that’s a little bit of an immature reaction to a brief sample size this season…. Especially for a player who is still relatively young….
I have heard from multiple sources that the Boston Bruins are extremely interested in trading for Owen Tippett… and there are other teams out there as well, as fans have to realize Tippett has a pretty nice highlight reel showing off his skills… he’s one of the fastest players in the league and also has a nice scoring touch…. Although that scoring touch has shown to be streaky at times.
The Flyers will listen on anything… but they are definitely not shopping Tippett… a few of my friends have texted me, “Why would anyone want him?” That question is just kind of crazy. Teams look beyond struggles, especially when you have a guy who has put pucks in the net before.
On Panarin and the Rangers…
It feels like it’s just gonna be one of those seasons for Artemi Panarin in New York. The Rangers have shown no shyness to moving out players, and it feels like it’s just a matter of time before they move Panarin. Who might be interested? Well…. It’s kind of interesting who is interested…. And that would be the Washington Capitals. There’s obviously a lot of talk out there about whether or not Alex Ovechkin is going to retire after this season or continue setting records… personally, I don’t think he’s gonna be happy until he has 1,000 goals… if I was him, I wouldn’t be happy to get that close to something that no one has ever touched—it really would put him in a different world…. Obviously he’s already in a different world. That would put him in a different, different world.
Enter Panarin…. Can you imagine being the center and looking out there and seeing Ovechkin on your right and Panarin on your left? Do you even need another player? Could you just go with two forwards? Obviously, I’m kidding, but the reality is that this might be just what the doctor ordered for the Washington Capitals.
I’ve gotten so many great recommendations via email and in the comment section here, and I completely understand your frustrations because I share them… no one comes to this site more than me…. So I just wanted to put a couple things out there and tell you that we are in the process of returning our old comment system to the new Hockeybuzz. Obviously you guys like the old school, and I don’t blame you. It will also be possible very shortly to view the comments without having to log in. That’s just one of many changes, but that’s gonna be the first because I think that’s the most important to all of you guys….cheers.
