The forward has already arrived in town ahead of the Blue Jackets’ training camp.

According to Mark Scheig, those wondering when he would report can now rest easy, as he has reportedly already arrived in Columbus.

The reporter points out, though, that the situation remains worth watching, without offering more details on what could still complicate matters.

Basically, just because Marchenko is in town doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stay in Columbus.

Remember that Marchenko missed the team’s golf tournament a few days ago, a notable absence from a group that was nearly complete.

Canadiens’ prospect depth and Columbus’ cap pressure keep a Marchenko trade in play

Don Waddell also recently said he’s willing to listen to offers for any player, including Marchenko, if the trade benefits Columbus.

His contract, worth $3.8 million per season, also remains very affordable for a team looking to acquire his services.

With limited cap space available to sign Adam Fantilli, the Blue Jackets could be forced to accept a package made up mostly of draft picks and prospects.

That would be another piece of good news for the Canadiens.

That scenario would put the Montreal Canadiens in a strong position, considering they own one of the NHL’s deepest prospect pools.

The Blue Jackets’ official training camp will begin in the coming days, which could accelerate discussions surrounding his future with the team.

Remember that Marchenko recorded 67 points last season, an offensive profile that fits perfectly with Montreal’s needs on the second line.

For now, it’s impossible to say whether this early arrival truly rules out a possible trade, or whether his stay is only temporary.
