Montreal Canadiens Top 10 Prospects: #10-#9
The Montreal Canadiens have seen many of their top prospects graduate to the NHL over the past few seasons. Despite this, the Canadiens still have a very solid prospect group.
In the next few days, I’ll discuss my top 10 prospects in the Montreal Canadiens organization. All prospects on this list are either still on the entry-level contract or remain unsigned by the Montreal Canadiens. After discussing the honourable mentions yesterday, it’s time to dive into the bottom half of the top 10 prospects in the Canadiens pipeline.
#10. Florian Xhekaj, Forward, Laval Rocket
Starting the Montreal Canadiens top 10 prospects list is tough forward Florian Xhekaj. Similarly to his older brother and current Canadiens blueliner Arber Xhekaj, Florian is a very physical player who finishes his checks and won’t shy away from dropping his gloves.
However, he has also shown a knack for chipping in offensively since he entered the AHL during the 2024-25 season. Xhekaj has an underrated shot that could allow him to score around 12-15 goals in the NHL, similarly to former NHLer Brian Boyle. While he may not be as big as Boyle was, Xhekaj’s physical style and responsible defensive play are both aspects of his game that show similarities to the former NHL centre. This upcoming season can be a chance for Xhekaj to show the Montreal Canadiens that he is ready to take the next step and push for a roster spot.
