Habs Daily: St-Louis Extension Talk, Zharovsky’s Elite Potential, Veterans
Here are the Montreal Canadiens and NHL news items you may have missed on Tuesday.
Montreal Canadiens News
- Not only is prospect Alexander Zharovsky among the most talented players in the system, he set a single-season record by scoring 42 points as an 18-year-old in the KHL. With a fantastic D+1 season in the books, Zharovsky was voted as the No.3 prospect by Habs fans, one spot higher than his 2025 ranking. - There’s only one year left in head coach Martin St-Louis’ contract, though team owner Geoff Molson is confident they’ll extend him when the time comes.

- The Canadiens changed their centre-ice logo again. Personally, I like it, but many fans want to see the double-logo that dominated the Bell Centre ice for so many years.

- ICYMI: There’s no doubt David Reinbacher’s development has been tumultuous. He’s missed significant stretches in every season since he was drafted, due to various injuries. However, he’s also managed to improve several aspects of his play, a clear-cut sign that he’s progressing, albeit slower than expected. - ICYMI: The Habs haven’t swung any trades to considerably improve the lineup, but despite the lack of action on the trade front, they’re in great shape. The driving force behind the optimism is Nick Suzuki’s excellent leadership. [Suzuki’s Leadership Will Guide The Canadiens To Success]

- This doesn’t necessarily fall under the umbrella of NHL news, but we lost a giant yesterday when Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80. Few made a bigger positive impact on their community than Parton, one of the best people to ever walk this earth. I’m not big into celebrity worship, but it’s fair to say that Parton represented the best of us.

- The New Jersey Devils have long kept a close eye on Quinn Hughes, and the latest word from Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast only heightens that interest. [New Jersey Devils]
- When the Florida Panthers return to the ice in a few weeks, no one will be happier to return to action than Sasha Barkov. And, the Panthers are thrilled to have their captain back. [Florida Panthers]
- Every general manager makes mistakes. For many reasons, even the best plans can implode. This player doesn’t work out because his game doesn’t fit the team’s needs, or he washes out because he’s unhappy about being traded, or just bad luck. [Pittsburgh Penguins]
