The Canadiens’ Three Best Draft Picks Since The Start Of The Hughes-Gorton Regime
One year after passing on Russian prospect Matvei Michkov at the 2023 draft, the Canadiens used the fifth overall pick at the 2024 draft to pick Ivan Demidov. Thanks to Bobrov’s contacts in Russia, the Habs had been keeping tabs on Demidov for a long time. When the other four teams picked Macklin Celebrini, Artyom Levshunov, Beckett Sennecke and Cayden Lindstrom in the first four spots, the Habs pounced on the opportunity to draft Demidov. While nobody could argue that Celebrini wasn’t a deserving first-overall pick, the jury is still out on the other three players that were picked ahead of Demidov.
