Last season, forward Juraj Slafkovsky broke out into the player the Montreal Canadiens were hoping for when they took him first overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Slafkovsky scored 30 goals and had 73 points in 82 games. With more pressure on him this coming season, can he continue to shine and become a bonafide NHL star?
Slafkovsky’s role for the upcoming season will be to serve as the top power forward for the Montreal Canadiens. While both he and Josh Anderson (whose role was discussed here yesterday) are considered power forwards, their roles are much different. For Slafkovsky, it is about using his skills to make plays alongside his big 6-foot-3, 225-pound frame that helps create room for his smaller linemates for better scoring chances. For Anderson, it’s more about being the physical, hard forechecker that hits everything that moves.
