The NHL has released the home openers for all 32 teams, and we have some idea of how the season will start for the Montreal Canadiens.
They will start on the road on the NHL’s opening night, Tuesday, September 29 in Toronto to take on the new-look Maple Leafs. They will also face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 3 in their home opener, indicating a season-opening road trip. We will have to wait for the full schedule to see whether there are any games between the two.
The first regular season game at the Bell Centre will be on October 6 when they face off against the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes in a rematch of the Eastern Conference Final.
On October 25, the Canadiens will hit the ice outdoors against the Winnipeg Jets in the 2026 Heritage Classic, at Princess Auto Stadium.
The full schedule will be revealed on Thursday and will be the first to return to an 84-game slate, one of the reasons for the shorter pre-season and earlier start of the regular season. There will also be a return of the NHL All-Star Game in February.
