Maple Leafs working trade lines — The Fourth Period
The Toronto Maple Leafs are very much engaged in trade discussions involving multiple players and more moves could be finalized as early as today.
Maple Leafs defencemen Morgan Rielly, Brandon Carlo, Jake McCabe and Oliver Ekman-Larsson have generated interest from several clubs.
While Rielly’s been a focal point, TFP first reported last week that Carlo is being discussed, as well, and ahead of the trade deadline, teams were trying to land Ekman-Larsson from Toronto.
McCabe owns a full no-trade clause and according to TFP’s David Pagnotta, the Leafs have not yet approached him about possibly waiving it and are not expected to, which would remove him from the trade chatter. Ekman-Larsson is not expected to be on the move, either.
TSN’s Darren Dreger reported this morning that the Leafs are “definitely closing in on deals” beyond Rielly and it’s suggested that Toronto could have a very busy week.
Speculation over Toronto’s goaltending has picked up, as the Leafs are exploring options in net, while chatter surrounding forward Matthew Knies continues.
The Maple Leafs have just under $18.8 million in salary cap space and have plenty of flexibility to add to their roster, depending on the number of moves GM John Chayka completes.
