Welcome to ‘Sick Puck Links’ here at SickPodcasts.com

From Monday to Friday mornings, we will link not just our content from the previous days but also the hottest news around the NHL. Since it is Monday, we will be covering our links from the past weekend as well as the biggest news around the NHL currently.

Here are all our links from this weekend as well as the stories that are currently dominating the NHL’s news cycle. Start your week off on the right track and give these articles a look.

Sick Links:

On Sunday, I wrote about how Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle could be a potential trade chip given his placement on the depth chart and his injury history since entering the league. Do you agree on Guhle being used in potential trade to improve the Habs?

Two Habs players were named to the NHL All-Rookie Team on Friday. Ivan Demidov and Jakub Dobes making the All-Rookie team was the first time in 40 years that two Habs rookies made the squad and just the 4th time in team history.

On Thursday, the Hart Trophy was given out to Nikita Kucherov as the league MVP for the 2025-26 campaign. However, I took a look into the three Habs players who finished within the top 15 of the Hart Trophy voting, the most of any team. Read all about how Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson were able to get Hart Trophy attention.

Finally, my colleague Jimmy Murphy wrote in his “Murphy’s Law” column about the Canadiens circling back to Anaheim Ducks centre Mason McTavish as a potential trade target to fill the much-needed 2nd line centre role. According to Murphy’s sources, the Ducks are hoping to acquire a package surrounding top prospect Michael Hage in exchange for McTavish. How are you feeling about the interest that the Habs have in McTavish?

The biggest news of the entire weekend is, no surprise, the Carolina Hurricanes winning their 2nd Stanley Cup in team history. On Sunday night, the Hurricanes completed the job with a 3-0 victory in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Hurricanes went 16-3 en route to winning the Stanley Cup, which is the best record in the postseason since the Edmonton Oilers, who went 16-2 back in 1988.

Jordan Staal became the oldest winner of the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP at 37 years old and 277 days, surpassing Tim Thomas. Staal scored 6 goals in the Stanley Cup Finals, which included tying a 70-year-old Stanley Cup record previously held by Jean Beliveau with goals in 5 straight Cup Final games.

Rod Brind’Amour becomes the 4th head coach in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup with the same team as both captain (2006) and head coach. He joins Cooney Weiland (with the Boston Bruins), Hap Day (with the Toronto Maple Leafs), and Toe Blake (with the Montreal Canadiens) as the only guys to ever get the feat done.

One of the best stories to finish the Stanley Cup Finals has to be goaltender Brandon Bussi, who was claimed by the Hurricanes off waivers just 8 months ago, and fast forward to Sunday, he gets a shutout to backstop his team to a Stanley Cup victory. When you also consider that he didn’t play a single minute in the postseason until Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, it shows just how amazing of a performance he had.

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers completed a trade around two lower-end prospects. The Penguins acquired forward Oliver Okuliar from the Panthers in exchange for defenseman Emil Pieniniemi. Okuliar played this past season with Skelleftea AIK, where he won an SHL Championship. Meanwhile, Pieniniemi played with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
