The identity of the second prospect involved in the failed Matthew Knies trade is finally becoming clearer, as Jeff Marek believes it was a young defenseman.

The insider shared that detail on his podcast The Sheet

It is another piece of a puzzle that has fascinated Montreal Canadiens fans for days.

Marek outlined the offer in its entirety.

According to him, the package included Alexander Zharovsky, defenseman Pickford, and two first-round picks.

The new development is that second name.

The identity of the other prospect involved had remained unknown for quite some time.

Marek has now lifted part of the veil.

“Alexander Zharovsky…I believe Bryce Pickford…and two first round picks,” he said, though he stopped short of confirming it definitively.

It appears to confirm information that was recently revealed.

Marco D’Amico had suggested that the defenseman involved was likely either Adam Engstrom or Bryce Pickford.

Two prospects involved in a Kent Hughes and Montreal Canadiens offer

The fact that two sources are pointing toward Pickford is noteworthy.

While it does not constitute confirmation, it certainly adds weight to that theory.

The rest of the offer was already known.

Zharovsky, the promising forward, along with two first-round picks, made up the core of the proposal submitted to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

That is a significant price to pay for a single player.

You can see Marek’s comments here:

Now that the details of the offer are becoming clearer, it gives us a much better understanding of the situation.

And every new detail that emerges serves as a reminder of just how serious Montreal was in its pursuit of Knies.
