Laughton, Kings to talk new contract — The Fourth Period
The Los Angeles Kings are planning to meet with veteran forward Scott Laughton this week to discuss his future with the organization.
Laughton, whom the Kings acquired at the trade deadline from the Toronto Maple Leafs, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 after his five-year, $15 million deal expires at the end of June.
The 31-year-old performed and gelled well in Los Angeles, picking up five goals and three assists for eight points in 21 games with the Kings. He had 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points in 64 games combined with the Kings and Leafs this past season.
According to TFP’s Dennis Bernstein, the Kings’ coaching decision may impact Laughton’s decision to re-up with the club, as Los Angeles is in the early-stages of his coaching search.
