Trocheck once again generating interest — The Fourth Period
The New York Rangers explored trading centre Vincent Trocheck leading up to the trade deadline in March, but opted to hold on to him as teams balked at the asking price.
Rangers GM Chris Drury held firm on his price and some believed he might generate more suitors in the off-season, given the shallow free agent pool this July.
Trocheck, 32, has three years remaining on his contract and comes with a $5.625 million salary cap hit. He also owns a 10-team no-trade list as part of his deal and his preference, if dealt, is to stay in the Eastern Conference.
Teams like the Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild expressed interest in him during the season and it’s possible both revisit acquiring Trocheck this summer.
Earlier in the week, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported the Toronto Maple Leafs and new GM John Chayka have kicked tires on Trocheck’s availability, as well.
It’s unknown what the exact ask is from the Rangers, though speculation suggests a first-round pick, top prospect and one additional asset would get a deal done. The Wild offered a package that included a first-round pick prior to the trade deadline, but that clearly was not enough for the Rangers.
In 67 games with the Rangers this season, Trocheck registered 16 goals and 37 assists for 53 points.
