P.K. Subban speaks with Gazette on Canadiens’ playoff run
Former Canadiens star P.K. Subban says this Montreal team has earned the city’s belief.
“You can have all the talent you want,” Subban said. “But do you show up and leave it all on the ice?”
“I haven’t seen one player on that team take a night off.”

Subban spoke with The Gazette while marking the completion of the $10-million pledge he first made to the Montreal Children’s Hospital in 2015, a contribution the hospital says has helped about 100,000 children and stands as the largest philanthropic commitment by a professional athlete in Canada.
The interview also touched on the Canadiens and the energy surrounding the team’s Stanley Cup run.
It’s hard not to root for young guys like that living out their dream.

Asked what makes this team so special, Subban said it goes back to the city.
“Montreal’s a special place,” Subban said. “The Montreal Canadiens don’t exist without this community, and the community really isn’t the community without the Montreal Canadiens.”
Subban, who played seven seasons in Montreal, praised the team’s young core and the effort they bring each night.
“It’s hard not to root for young guys like that living out their dream,” he said.
But asked whether this Canadiens roster is better than the teams he played on, Subban declined to compare them.
“They’re writing their own path,” he said. “It has nothing to do with me or anybody else before us.”
And as for his favorite player.
“I love Lane (Hutson),” Subban said. “Everybody knows that. I love what he brings.”
He also praised Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Kaiden Guhle, Juraj Slafkovsky and Zach Bolduc before stopping himself.
“They’re all good kids,” he said. “We’re here to support them as alumni.”
