Red Wings eyeing Augustine after college — The Fourth Period
The Detroit Red Wings are hoping to bring goaltender Trey Augustine to the pro ranks after his season with Michigan State concludes.
Augustine, 21, was drafted by the Red Wings in the second-round, 41st overall, of the 2023 NHL Draft and has spent the last three seasons at Michigan State.
He has been experiencing his best season, to date, posting a 24-8-1 record this year with a 2.05 goals-against-average and a .931 save percentage.
As he battles for a national championship, the Red Wings are believed to have his entry-level contract on the table for when he is ready to make the jump to the pros.
Considered one of Detroit’s top prospects, Augustine has continued to impress. On Thursday, he made a season-best 41 saves against UConn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to help MSU advance to the regional final.
Meanwhile, forward Max Plante may also make the jump after his season with Minnesota-Duluth concludes.
Drafted by the Wings in the second-round, 47th overall, of the 2024 NHL Draft, Plante picked up 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points in 38 games this season.
