Canadiens’ Brendan Gallagher receives standing ovation in 900th NHL game
The 33-year-old appeared in his 900th career NHL game when the Canadiens faced original-six foe the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, playing each game with the team that drafted him in 2010.
With this milestone, Gallagher has now played the 13th-most games in Canadiens history, joining an exclusive list that includes Jean Beliveau, Maurice Richard and Guy Lafleur.
He was honoured at the Bell Centre for this achievement in a first-period TV timeout, with Habs faithful rewarding him with a standing ovation.
“I’ve just tried to enjoy every year. You never know when your last is going to be,” Gallagher said ahead of Tuesday’s game. “It’s a nice night to, kind of, appreciate what we’ve done, but we know we have a job to do as well. So it should be a fun night.
“It feels right,” Gallagher added when asked how it feels to reach this milestone against such a storied rival. “They’re a very dangerous team and we know what they’re all about. It’s going to be a fun test tonight, should be a good game. But yeah, it feels fitting.”
Gallagher made his NHL debut in the 2012-13 season, during which he played 44 games.
Through his now-900 games, the Edmonton native has racked up 245 goals and 239 assists for a total of 484 points.
