Habs Mailbag: Canadiens are looking good for making the playoffs
The Canadiens signed 29-year-old Kaapo Kahkonen to a one-year, US$1.15-million contract last summer and he has played 27 games with the Rocket this season as Fowler’s backup, posting a 16-6-4 record with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. Kahkonen, who has 140 games of NHL experience with the Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche, can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He only played one game in the NHL last season with the Avalanche and it will be interesting to see if the Canadiens want to bring him back next season to have a veteran goalie in Laval.
