Anthony Martineau shares his view on why Patrik Laine responded to Marc Dumont’s criticism

“Patrik Laine has already done serious damage in the NHL. He knows what he’s capable of doing. And I think deep down, Patrik is really upset that he hasn’t been able to show the Montreal market what he can do when fully healthy, because we haven’t seen Patrik Laine at 100% of his abilities in a Canadiens uniform.

There was the knee injury, then the shoulder rehab, then the wrist injury in the playoffs, and now the sports hernia. So it’s simply not true that Patrik Laine has been able to demonstrate what he’s capable of at 100% in the Montreal market. I think that frustrates him more than some guy who doesn’t know him going out and saying something publicly.

Ultimately, he wants to prove himself as an athlete, and I think we understand that. And if we understand it, he also understands that more and more, unless there’s a major change, he may not necessarily have the opportunity to do that in this context in Montreal.”
