Kyrou a prime trade target, open to move — The Fourth Period
Once the Winter Olympics roster freeze lifts, plenty of eyes will be focused on the St. Louis Blues, as they are expected to be one of the busier teams leading up to the March 6 trade deadline.
With the likes of Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk, Oskar Sundqvist, Mathieu Joseph and Pius Suter among the trade candidates on the Blues, much attention has been put on the futures of Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, both of whom are signed through the 2030-31 season.
Blues GM Doug Armstrong is willing to listen to trade inquiries on almost every one of his players, but the price tag for one is significantly different than the price tag for another.
Kyrou, 27, is no stranger to the rumour mill, as his name has been the subject of trade speculation since last season. He was also popular around the NHL Draft when teams like the Montreal Canadiens and Seattle Kraken expressed interest.
During Wednesday’s episode of the DFO Rundown Insider Edition with Irfaan Gaffar, TFP’s David Pagnotta reported that Kyrou remains in play and added the player would be open to a change of scenery.
Kyrou, who has an $8.125 million cap hit, owns a full no-trade clause as part of his contract, but Pagnotta noted he would be willing to sign off on a move to the right environment.
Trade talks involving several Blues players are expected to pick up over the next two weeks leading up to the deadline and if a move involving Kyrou isn’t completed by D-Day, talks are expected to pick up again in the off-season, potentially around the NHL Draft in Buffalo.
In 47 games with the Blues so far this season, Kyrou has registered 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points.
