There are some strong reports out there that the Rangers are trying to get a deal done today. Today by 3 PM to be exact, which would give them a 24 hour start on the deadline itself.  My bet is still in the Washington Capitals, but in the last 24 hours, I’ve heard a whole lot about the LA Kings… the question is will any team take on his salary for the next 18 days without getting anything from him on the ice during that period of time.. that’s a lot of salary on your cap and teams are very aware of that..    My instinct here is that we’re gonna hear about a deal but it’s not gonna be announced officially till the 22nd.  There will be some kind of handshake agreement and that will leak out in the Press for sure. 

Once the freeze begins, no trades can be processed until February 22. Any player acquired before then would still collect nearly 18 days of salary without playing. In a tight-cap league, that matters. So even if teams finalize deals this week, many will simply wait to execute them after the freeze lifts to avoid paying for idle time.
