Stamkos remains a target for some clubs — The Fourth Period
The Nashville Predators have continued to generate interest in veteran forward Steven Stamkos, who owns a full no-movement clause as part of his contract.
Predators GM Barry Trotz has engaged in trade inquiries for Stamkos with some clubs, including the New Jersey Devils, and appears willing to make a move if the right deal and opportunity presents itself.
As TFP’s David Pagnotta has reported multiple times this season, Stamkos seems to be willing to waive his NMC for a contender, though it is unclear at this point in time which specific teams he would consider.
According to league sources, teams eyeing Stamkos as a potential target want the Predators to retain a portion of his salary, something Trotz has been reluctant to do. Whether the Predators change their stance or not remains to be seen.
Stamkos, 35, has an $8 million salary cap hit and two more years remaining on his contract after this season.
Forwards Ryan O’Reilly and Jonathan Marchessault have also attracted interest from other clubs around the NHL, but a move involving either them or Stamkos does not appear to be on the horizon just yet.
Stamkos has tallied 17 points in his last 12 games, and his performance lately has helped push Nashville back into the playoff picture.
The Predators have won seven of their last 10 games and are currently one point behind the Los Angeles Kings and Seattle Kraken for one of the two wildcard spots in the Western Conference.
